Mobomo RaceMate App Featured on USAToday.com

Mobomo has been busy building mobile apps for numerous clients this year, and one of our latest, RaceMate, was just covered on USAToday.com. The app, available for both Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) and Google Android-based mobile devices, was designed for the Marine Corps Marathon. It will let supporters track their favorite runner at the 35th annual race in Arlington, VA, on Sun Oct 31st, 2010. For further details, please see our earlier announcement of the RaceMate mobile app and the Marine Corps Marathon.

  1. Please note that your Racemate app requires both RUNNER and SPECTATOR to purchase the app. That was NOT obvious from all the Marine Corps Marathon comments about tracking runners based on the “chip” they carry.

Had to uninstall app since it did not provide any value.

  2. App appears far from ready for prime time. My daughter is running tomorrow and cannot “register” from within the, so I won't be able to track her. At least I'll be able to get splits at the timing locations.

  3. My daughter (a runner), her friend (a fellow spectator) and I (also a spectator) all downloaded (and paid for!) this app. I set it up yesterday (the day before the Marine Corps Marathon) with my account and “friends” (i.e. the other two I wanted to follow today during the marathon). All seemed well until this morning as the marathon started. I entered the app and found the two “friends” had disappeared. Not only that, they could no longer be added (the device froze) and the “news” tab indicated the server wouldn't connect. I figured maybe it was overloaded and would work later but NO!! Then I could not log in (it froze every time), I could not add myself under a different name, it said it had e-mailed me a password reminder (I knew what it was but since it didn't “take” I figured I'd see if they changed it) but I never got the password e-mail, it did not recognize a secondary e-mail address that I tried to use. In short it is CRAP!! I asked other folks during the run and found NO ONE who got the blasted RaceMate app to work. This is unsatisfactory–and given the amount of money this company essentially stole from all of us it borders on criminal. I can't even find the app on iTunes Store anymore so can't complain there, but I think this company needs to void all purchases of this non-performing application and just let everyone have our money back. If ever they try this again–say next year–I'd be willing to give it a shot since it certainly was a good idea, but it needs to be better executed or I'll never buy anything from this company again.

  4. i concur. i also bought and paid for the app and i couldn't get anything to load except for the map. i knew that my runner wasn't carrying a phone and i talked with the guys in the mobomo booth at the expo and they assured me that i would still get his splits based on the mcm timing. got nothing. i know it is only $2 but i think we should all get a refund!

  5. i was told by the mobomo people at the expo that while i wouldn't get minute by minute data on my runner (without a phone) i would still get information. got nothing.

  6. The app never worked for me. Both the runner and I spent $1.99 and had the V2.1 update. As a developer, I am completely disappointed. Their servers couldn't handle the traffic. Of the 9 or so people I surveyed around me during the race who were using the app, 0 could get it to work.
