USGS needed to modernize its public-facing e-commerce platform while maintaining FISMA Moderate compliance, integrating with a proprietary SAP backend, and supporting high-volume public access. The legacy Drupal 7 environment was costly, difficult to deploy, and limited in scalability.

 

The platform required improved resilience, faster release cycles, stronger security controls, and the ability to support traffic surges tied to national initiatives.

The solution

Cloud-native architecture with enterprise integration.

Mobomo re-architected the USGS Store into a containerized, cloud-native platform hosted in AWS GovCloud. We migrated Drupal 7 to Drupal 9, deployed Amazon EKS for orchestration, and implemented CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments across development, staging, and production.

To address integration complexity, we engineered a custom REST API to extend the SAP backend and synchronized over 260,000 products into Elasticsearch for high-performance search and indexing. Infrastructure-as-Code practices streamlined provisioning and improved consistency across environments.

Security controls were modernized to meet federal compliance requirements while enabling operational agility.

The goal for this engagement was to create a clear and clean new flow for the user experience, and to ensure all design elements were consistent across all pages of the site

The Every Dose Every Day (E2D2) app is a user friendly, free app created by the CDC for people living with HIV. The purpose of the app is to provide hourly/daily/weekly reminders as necessary for taking medications, keeping track of appointments, storing lab results, and refill prescriptions for the user. The E2D2 app is secure and confidential, only storing the data in the user’s phone for their reference.
